About John

John is a former Chicago police officer and FBI agent. He has 33 years experience in law enforcement and taught street survival to police and military all over the world. John is an FBI certified firearms instructor, sniper team leader, SWAT team member, tactical instructor, physical fitness instructor, and defensive tactics instructor. During his 12 years on the Chicago Police Department, John received numerous awards to include the Blue Star, Department Commendations, Unit Citations, and the highest award for bravery–The Award of Valor. John spent his last years of active duty with the FBI teaching at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

Now retired, John has published more than 250 articles on police work and written 10 books (mostly novels). He also wrote book reviews for the New Journal of Books and the scripts for videos honoring fallen police and military heroes. Married for 50 years to Christine, John has three children and five grandchildren.
